Dr Bastomski’s Thoughts:
Not mentioned in this and most other articles on this topic (click on link to article here) is that the fourth leading cause of death in America is taking prescription medications AS PRESCRIBED and having the unfortunate side effect of dying from its complications in a hospital. So if you died at work or at home from complications of taking prescription medications, these items were not added to this statistic.
This statistic has been known and published in the journal of the American Medical Association in 1994 by Leape under the title of Errors in Medicine. Others who have looked at this topic believe that the iatrogenic caused death rate is actually the number one cause of death when you factor in other topics such as unnecessary medical and surgical procedures including unnecessary antibiotics and hospitalizations as well as the under-reporting of iatrogenic data.
Bottom line is that if you are looking to extend the quality and quantity of your life, you would do well to absolutely minimize the amount of prescription and over the counter medications you are taking on a regular basis. For many cases there are equally if not more effective methods of natural healing that would include some change in diet and proper intake of certain nutritional supplements.
A couple of last points on this matter. Consider that the average senior citizen of our country is taking between 4 to 9 pills per day of prescription and over the counter medications on a daily basis. The average number of people taking at least one prescription medication in the US is 49%.
If you would like to discuss help with diet and exploring other effective methods of natural healing, please do not hesitate to contact me anytime to schedule an appointment.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jacob Bastomski
