Digestive Disorders

Irritable bowel syndrome, hiatal hernia, gastritis, esophageal reflux, diverticulitis and Crohn’s Disease are some of the common names given to various states of dysfunction and disease of the digestive disorders in the digestive tract.

We utilize a functional medicine approach to this complex of digestive disorders as we do with other conditions, but the emphasis here is on finding and removing food allergies (sensitivities) from the diet, and dealing with a condition known as dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is a situation wherein for various reasons, there becomes a problematic balance between the good and neutral microbes of the gut and the pathologic ones. Examples of pathologic organisms would include candida yeast, certain bacteria, molds and/or parasites.

Through the use of various energy response techniques, we can often find these hidden infections, which otherwise may go undetected. We then will utilize different herbal agents to assist the body in restoring a more optimal balance of the gut microflora.

One of the reasons for a dysbiosis state to occur is because one’s diet is not in sync with the needs of the body. Most people do not know that about 60 to 70 percent of our immune system is in the gut. If your gut is not happy, your immune system is likely not happy. If your immune system is stressed then likely pathologic organisms, which previously may have been present in smaller numbers, can expand their footprint and take up a larger presence and start secreting more toxic substances into your gut. Then there is the issue of food allergies (sensitivities). For example if you are sensitive to dairy or wheat and you are taking in these foods, they will cause an irritation to your gut which then sets up a more hospitable environment for pathologic microbes which in combination start to cause what is referred to as “leaky gut syndrome”. What occurs here is that the tight barrier that the gut is supposed to provide to your body becomes breached in parts and stuff that should be contained in the gut, (toxic chemicals, microbes) gets into circulation and can cause a long list of problems from joint pain, to mood and sleep disorders to a condition being called “leaky brain syndrome”. This situation occurs when a toxic internal environment sets up a weakening and ultimately a leakage wherein toxic stuff can get into the brain.

Treatment would include identifying and treating any hidden infections, identifying and removing any food allergies (sensitivities) from your diet, dealing with any blood sugar imbalances present via change of diet and/or nutritional support, identifying and reducing the toxic load on your detoxification organs such as your liver, kidneys and gut via herbal and/or nutritional support and chiropractic adjustments to improve your nervous system’s ability to communicate with your gut and your gut’s ability to communicate with your nervous system.
In more problematic cases we will utilize physical therapy modalities of Class III or IV lasers and/or our Ondamed targeted tissue stimulation therapy.
