In my experience, candida, yeast, fungus and/or mold are frequently found on testing of patients with chronic disease. When treating a patient from a “functional medicine” perspective, we look at a few key items including “dysbiosis” that is the presence in the gut and elsewhere of an unwelcomed significant presence of pathologic microbes. Second we look at how stable the blood sugar is as about 40 to 50% of the population at large will have sensitivity issues to carbohydrate overload; third we look at food allergies/sensitivity, the top two being wheat and dairy and fouth we look at toxic accumilation or said otherwise, the inability of ones liver to detoxify at the needed pace, for the amount of exposure to toxic chemicals and metals like mercury, lead, cadmium and nickel.
These four issues are critical to investigate and if present deal with in order to reverse most cases of chronic disease in as short and economical fashion as possible. It does require one to change their diet some and does require the taking of certain nutritional supplements. Most people with Candida are able to get rid off the excess yeast in two weeks to two months. But if a healthy diet is not followed then likely the yeast problem may recur once the physiology/chemistry is sufficiently messed up to again fertilize the promotion of various pathologic microbes.
